After
Christmas we went away from the sea and into the mountains. Our destination
was a lodge at the entrance to Tholpetty nature reserve in Wayanad destrict.
We had three pleasant days touring the park, looking for elephants, deer and
bisons. Finally we went over the border into Tamil Nadu to stay on a coffee plantation in the Nilgiri Hills to celebrate the new year. This plantation is surrounded by the Mudumalay national park and by just walking through the coffee estate you can watch birds, deers, wild pigs, giant squirrel and with some luck bears and leopards. The accomodation is in an old hunting lodge from colonial times beatifully arranged. The evenings were pleasant cool so we warmed up around a campfire. New Years Eve we celebrated with together with some Indian guests. At midnight people from the neighbouring village came and performed some dance around the fire ... and then the party realy took off... |
